You know what cheapens a debate? Rank misogyny.

In a rare moment of boredom and madness, I decided to have a look at what today's CiF topics were. It was, as usual,a gigantic error.

Cath Elliot had written a very good post on the fall in teen pregnancy and the sensationalist coverage of a 23% rise in teen abortions. The actual number these abortions rose by is 28. It was detailed, well thought out, and had a comments section that made me want to retch.

Elliot made a good point, which was the lack of actual analysis of those numbers. How many were victims of assault? How many were girls with mental issues et cetera? In the comments, a complete asshole saw fit to remark:
And trying to introduce issues such as child abuse/rape etc. into this debate is too cheap to be worth considering.

I mean, I don't even have any words for that. It makes me want to cry. How can these people even exist? No wonder the rape conviction rate is so low.

God, becoming a radical lesbian separatist looks more like a good option all the time.

Stories and Songs: Reviews

This week has mainly been eaten up by the OMG SGA feelings again. But I still found the time to read, listen and watch some new things! A testement to my insomnia, if nothing else.

Read:

Nigella Lawson's How to Eat

Can I just say here how much I adore Nigella Lawson? I can? Well, it is THIS MUCH. I first dipped into it three weeks ago, and her basic bread recipe has become my staple, and a favourite. I combine it with the onion mixture from 'Happy Days with the Naked Chef' and it makes the most divine onion bread.

Listened To

You know when you listen to an album, then go 'meh' then love it, forget about it, then fall so madly in love it may result in commital?
I have done that with Panic At The Disco's 'Pretty.Odd'. Songs like 'When the Day Met The Night' and 'Mad as Rabbits' are summery, happy and perfect for right now. Though Ryan Ross should stick to guitars- Brendon Urie's voice is too good for him to compete with. In another band, Ross would be a fair vocalist, though.

Watched

SGA. A lot of it. Also Fry and Laurie. I love it so- and this week was the week for comfort TV.

Stories and Songs: Weekly reviews

I've decided to start a weekly review- what I've read, what I've listened to, what I've watched. I am astoryandasong, so it seems appropriate.

This week I read:

Donna Tartt- The Little Friend

Unfortunately this is another time when critics rave and I go 'meh'. I mean, there are so many tropes at work in this book and none of it surprised me at all. I knew from the beginning what the ending would be. The characterisation porn didn't even work the blurb was all oh, the characters are so ORIGINAL. But no. So yeah, meh.

Anne Bishop- The Black Jewels Trilogy

I am currently laughing at the male character called Deamon or whatever, this may not be a good sign but I will soldier on.

This week I watched:

Reaper

Um, how hilarious? Not exactly heavyweight stuff, but funny all the same.

I also re-watched Stargate Atlantis Season 1, because David Hewlett is awesome. Also Joe Flanigan.

This week I listened to:

The Audition
Katy Perry
The Weepies
Funeral For A Friend
